The American Association for Geodetic Surveying (AAGS) aims to lead the community of geodetic, surveying, and land information data users through the 21st century. This will require AAGS to develop new educational programs, including presentations, seminars, and workshops on topics related to geodetic surveying; and articles and papers that inform the membership of the latest scientific and technological developments and how to implement them in the most cost-effective and efficient manner.

AASHTO is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association representing highway and transportation departments in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL) is part of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (USAERDC), which is the Army Corps of Engineers' integrated research and development (R&D) organization. CERL conducts research to support sustainable military installations. As one of the cornerstones of the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) National Geospatial Program, The National Map is a collaborative effort among the USGS and other Federal, State, and local partners to improve and deliver topographic information for the Nation. It has many uses ranging from recreation to scientific analysis to emergency response. The National Map is easily accessible for display on the Web, as products and services, and as downloadable data. The geographic information available from The National Map includes orthoimagery (aerial photographs), elevation, geographic names, hydrography, boundaries, transportation, structures, and land cover. Other types of geographic information can be added within the viewer or brought in with The National Map data into a Geographic Information System to create specific types of maps or map views. The National Map is a significant contribution to the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) and currently is being transformed to better serve the geospatial community by providing high quality, integrated geospatial data and improved products and services including new generation digital topographic maps.

As the Nation's largest water, earth, and biological science and civilian mapping agency, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) collects, monitors, analyzes, and provides scientific understanding about natural resource conditions, issues, and problems. The diversity of our scientific expertise enables us to carry out large-scale, multi-disciplinary investigations and provide impartial scientific information to resource managers, planners, and other customers.

The engineering collection grew from the holdings of the Astor Library, which focused on practical knowledge and included a significant number of useful works such as trade catalogs and business journals not collected by academic institutions. After the creation of The New York Public Library in 1895, the Astor holding provided the core for continuing contemporary acquisitions of new titles in each of the major divisions of the engineering discipline including civil engineering, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. Images included in the digital library collection reflect the unique nature of much of these materials.

A major gift to NYPL was the collection of William Barclay Parsons who served on the Board of the Library from 1911 until his death in 1932. General Parsons was also the chief engineer of the New York City subway system and a great many volumes in the collection deal with civil engineering projects and transportation engineering, dating from the 15th to the 20th century. In addition, the Parsons collection contains a significant number of volumes relating to military engineering projects during World War 1 when General Parsons served as a senior army engineer. In 1995, NYPL acquired the rare book collection of the Engineering Societies library, which supplements the Parsons gift.

This digital presentation draws together several archival collections of photographs, supplemented by published illustrated sources on related subjects, all concerned with the transit and water infrastructure of New York City in the last 150 years. Over 600 images, primarily original photographs, plus selected published sources, on the themes of traffic, transit and water. The digital collection includes mass transit proposals and projects, dating from 1867; the multi-county Catskill Aqueduct system that still supplies the city's water; and the pioneering Holland Tunnel for vehicular traffic under the Hudson River.

PennDOT was created in 1970 when the former Department of Highways was merged with transportation-related functions from the Departments of Revenue, Commerce, Community Affairs and Military Affairs. With an annual budget of about $5.4 billion in state and federal funds, PennDOT oversees programs and policies affecting highways, urban mass transit, rural public transportation, airports, railroads, ports and waterways.
