The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) was established by Executive Order on November 23, 1993. Foresight Institute is a leading think tank and public interest organization focused on transformative future technologies. Welcome to the Center for Extreme Ultraviolet Science and Technology – an Engineering Research Center (ERC) exploring the development of compact coherent extreme ultraviolet (EUV) sources and their applications in challenging scientific and technological problems.

The CHM’s mission is to conduct to leading research in nanotechnology and to foster the development of new advances from laboratory innovation to manufacturable components and devices. Hierarchical Manufacturing refers to the sequential process of fabricating functional nanostructures of specified size, morphology and composition, then integrating the nanostructures into device elements, and finally integrating the elements into systems and products. The CHM's research focus includes both tool and process development.

The Center for High-rate Nanomanufacturing is focused on developing tools and processes that will enable high-rate/high-volume bottom-up, precise, parallel assembly of nanoelements (such as carbon nanotubes, nanoparticles, etc.) and polymer nanostructures. The center nanotemplates are utilized to conduct fast massive directed assembly of nanoscale elements by controlling the forces required to assemble, detach, and transfer nanoelements at high rates and over large areas. The developed nanotemplates and tools will accelerate the creation of highly anticipated commercial products and will enable the creation of an entirely new generation of applications.

Goal is to develop a reliable, robust and cost-effective nanomanufacturing system to make nanostructures from multiple materials.

Scientific focus is the study, design and fabrication of nanoscale structures and their integration into large and complex interacting systems.

Stanford University and IBM Corporation, with funding from the National Science Foundation, have founded the Center for Probing the Nanoscale to achieve five principal goals: to develop novel probes that dramatically improve our capability to observe, manipulate, and control nanoscale objects and phenomena; to apply these novel probes to answer fundamental questions in science and to shed light on materials issues which have economic importance for industry; to educate the next generation of scientists and engineers regarding the theory and practice of these probes; to transfer our technology to industry so that corporations can manufacture and market our novel probes worldwide; and to inspire thousands of middle school students by training their teachers at a Summer Institute for Middle School Teachers.

The Computational Center for Nanotechnology Innovations (CCNI), based on the Rensselaer campus and at its Rensselaer Technology Park in Troy, N.Y., is designed both to help continue the impressive advances in shrinking device dimensions seen by electronics manufacturers, and to extend this model to a wide array of industries that could benefit from nanotechnology. The CCNI will focus on reducing the time and costs associated with designing and manufacturing nanoscale materials, devices, and systems.

The Cornell NanoScale Science & Technology Facility (CNF) is a national user facility that supports a broad range of nanoscale science and technology projects by providing state-of-the-art resources coupled with expert staff support. 2007 marked our 30th year in operation. Research at CNF encompasses physical sciences, engineering, and life sciences, and has a strong inter-disciplinary emphasis. Over 700 users per year (50% of whom come from outside Cornell) use the fabrication, synthesis, computation, characterization, and integration resources of CNF to build structures, devices, and systems from atomic to complex length-scales.

The ElectroOptics Research Institute joins together electrooptics faculty from the Universities of Louisville and Kentucky, and affiliated researchers from the Illinois Institute of Technology, China and Russia. From this core we are pursuing collaborative research and infrastructural development activities with faculty and industrial electrooptics researchers throughout the world.

Nanoscience and nanotechnology is a major thrust for our laboratory. We plan to bring expertise in materials synthesis and characterization to bear on the opportunities in nanoscience and technology. By precisely manipulating atoms and molecules-the very building blocks of nature-our research could yield safe, just-in-time sources of hydrogen for a wide range of energy applications, new instruments to observe chemical processes in living cells, and miniaturized sensors to detect pathogens in foods and the environment.

From the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan, the Nanosystem Research Institute (NRI) is a key research unit, having nanotechnology and computational science as its both wings, and boasting its over one hundred specialists covering broad areas. Since its inauguration in 2010, NRI has been developing new functional materials, devices, and systems by the development of nano-particle technologies and the innovation of processes, in close cooperation with theory, computational simulation, and measurement technologies. We have also
started developing “soft robot” based on soft materials and new technologies to utilize unharnessed heat. We are seeking to develop and realize devices and systems that are soft and gentle to humans and the environment, and to pioneer nanosystems based on the new concept of “Light, Thin, Safe and Soft” as our guiding principle, in place of the previous “Light, Thin, Short and Small.”

Our mission is to provide a top-rate research fabrication facility for micro and nano-scale processing. UCSB and other academic and insustrial researchers utilize the facility through a recharge system that allows the laboratory to operate and keep high quality professional staff for facility and equipment support as well as expert process consultation and hands-on fabrication assistance. The facility is committed to a high level of professional staff support and to increasing the capabilities of the laboratory with regular improvement of existing equipment and aquisition of high quality used and new micro and nanofabrication systems. We welcome academic and industrial researchers to use our facility.

The results of our program are leading to new methodologies for assembling novel functional materials and devices from nanoscale building blocks, to an interdisciplinary cadre of students and researchers trained in nanoscale science and engineering, to new opportunities for helping to create a science literate public through informal education based on nanoscience, and to novel applications of nanotechnology that may spur industry into the 21st century.

From the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan, the Research Core for Correlated Electrons (CE-Core) aims to perform systematic research, including basic and applied research on correlated-electron science and technology, to promote the next generation of nanoelectronics. This research is based on the research activities and results of the former Correlated Electron Research Center (CERC).

Research at this Rice University institute encompasses advanced materials, quantum magnetism, plasmonics and photonics, biophysics and bioengineering, ultracold atom physics, condensed matter and chemical physics, and all aspects of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

Although it started out as an electronics processing laboratory at Stanford University, the tools and expertise have expanded to provide support for a broad range of micro- and nano- science and engineering structures.
