DSG325: Design for Manufacturability: Find Research

Searching the Open Web...

map with pointers on itWhile searching the library databases might seem slow at first, information in databases is clearly labelled so you can identify exactly what information you find. Searching for information on the open web (like Google) can result in good information too, but you must be very careful about what sources you use if using the open web. Pay attention to:

  • the author,
  • the organization, publisher, and platform where you found the information,
  • the date the information was published,
  • the sources the authors' cited (or did not cite)
  • and whether or not the information gives you all of the facts

The search functionality of the IQS Directory is limited, but you can use Google as a workaround by using a site search.

  1. Go to Google.com.
  2. Type site: in the search bar followed by the name of the website you want to limit the search to. There's no need to use the http:// or the ...
  3. Follow the website name with a single space and then type the search phrase.
  4. Press Return or Enter to begin the search.
