An orientation - Library resources for ABM310

Whether you're on campus or a distance learning student, you'll find information on the tabs above that will show you how to find resources in the library catalog, articles and legal materials in the library's databases, and reliable websites. Then we'll show you how to create APA citations for your References page. After some in-class exercises and an after-class assignment, you'll be ready for Dr. Garner's research assignments!

Your library assignment is on the tab called "Library Assignment September 2025." You can complete the assignment online or you can also work on this assignment on a word document that you'll find below. You can use the word document in class or online or to work on the assignment in parts and then input your answers to submit them online.

 

Library Research Competencies Covered

At the conclusion of this library orientation, students will be able to

  • use the Madigan Library Catalog appropriately to find what books and other resources the Library has on their topics, and locate them in the Library or online
  • pick appropriate databases for their topics and use the Journals/Newspaper Titles link ("Journal Locator") to determine if the Madigan Library owns an article they want
  • identify reliable information on the Internet
  • identify ways to conduct legal research in Madigan Library and use one to find statutory, case, or administrative law pertinent to their topics
  • read and understand a citation and formulate appropriate citations for their research papers
