Bartlett: Definition Essay

Definition Essay

After reviewing Section 4.5 of the textbook, you will define a concept.  You will begin with a general discussion of the concept, and then identify the context that you are using the term, followed by the rationale for how you define the concept.  You will need to begin with a narrative hook to get the reader’s interest and thesis statement in the introductory paragraph, include as many body paragraphs as necessary (at least three) to discuss the term, identify the context, and illustrate the rationale for your definition., and end with a concluding paragraph that “pull[s] together all the different elements of your definition to ultimately reinforce your thesis and explain why your definition is a compelling interpretation of your chosen word or term” and refers back to the introductory narrative (Weaver, et al).  You must use one source for this paper; avoid using a dictionary definition for this requirement.  Instead, select an example to help support your rationale in one of your body paragraphs.  Your source needs to be cited internally and externally (Works Cited page).
