Faculty Library Services: Program Review & Accreditation

A guide created to assist faculty in all of their library needs

General Information

The College’s five-year program review cycle provides a structure and timetable for reviewing the strengths and weaknesses of the collection.

Some questions to ask when evaluating library materials:
  • Does the library have access to the core journals in your discipline?
  • Are there any print periodical titles you think we should eliminate because they are no longer useful or because they are available in electronic format?
  • Are there periodicals that you think we should subscribe to? If so, please contact your school’s librarian.
  • Do we have the core books in your discipline?
  • Do we have eBooks in your discipline?
  • Is the book collection for your discipline as current as it should be?
  • Has your department been to the library to deselect or evaluate the collection since your last program review?

How the Library Can Help

Upon request, librarians provide faculty in programs under review with:

  • A list of current periodical subscriptions for your discipline
  • A list of full-text periodical titles for your discipline
  • A list of subscription databases for your discipline
  • A list of nonprint media for your discipline
  • A bibliography of books in specific call number ranges
  • The number of books in specific call number ranges
  • The average date of publication for books in specific call number ranges
  • Expenditure data for programs/schools

If you need any other information, please contact your school's librarian.
