Rishel Furniture Company

Originally James Laird & Company.

Later purchased by J.A. Otto's Sons Furniture Factory

The Rishel Furniture Company also owned the building in which the Arrow Shirt Factory resided.

1983 (The Hon Company bought Rishel Furniture Company)

2001 (Penn College purchased the property from The Hon Company)

2003 (The newly renovated CAL building opened)

Rose Street Commons

College West Apartments was purchased by Penn College from HFL Corp. of State College.

Additional property surrounding College West Apartments was purchased from Garlock Inc. of Ohio (formerly Lubrikup Co. Inc.)

The newly acquired property was comprised of 8.46 acres and three separate buildings. 

Today, Rose Street Commons is home to many on-campus events, from Convocation fireworks to outdoor festivals.

All residence hall buildings in that area are named for Pennsylvania counties (Clinton Hall, Dauphin Hall, Delaware Hall, Juniata Hall, Lancaster Hall, York Hall)

Important Dates

1990-1992 (Clinton and Delaware Halls constructed)

1991-1993 (Juniata Hall constructed)

2000 (Penn College purchased College West Apartments and surrounding property, which are now known as Clinton, Delaware, and Juniata Halls)

2003 (York and Lancaster Halls constructed)

2010 (Dauphin Hall constructed)

2010 (College West Apartments and Rose Street Apartments ceased to be separate residential complexes and were subsumed by Rose Street Commons)

Rose Street Commons is home to two favorite events of employees and students alike. Pictured above is the fireworks show during Convocation weekend.


During the annual "Hot Dog You're Here!" and "Hot Dog It's Spring!" events the college community are invited to bring their fur family to mingle and play with the students (pictured below).
