Madigan Library: Course Reserves

For Students

Reserves are books, videos, etc. chosen by instructors for class use and placed on limited circulation. When you wish to check out a reserve item you’ll need to provide the name of your professor, course number, and author and/or title of the item to a staff member at the Main Circulation Desk. Check out periods are determined by the instructor and range from three (3) hours in-library use only to a semester for certain items.

Tips for Reserves

  • Reserve materials should be submitted at a minimum of one (1) week before date needed.
  • Materials may be added, archived, or removed from reserve by the instructor.
  • Reserve requests must include the following information:
    • Name, DIF, and phone extension;
    • Name and phone number of person submitting material (if not instructor);
    • Course abbreviation and number (e.g. HIS262);
    • School name;
    • Resource type (book, media, journal article, or eBook);
    • Who owns the item (instructor's personal copy, the library, academic department's copy);
    • Number of copies;
    • Loan period (3 hrs., 3 days, 7 days, 28 days, or semester);
    • Reserve period/semester (spring, summer, fall, or all); and
    • Any additional information you wish to provide.

Removing Reserves

At the end of each semester, an email it sent to instructors to ask if their reserve items should remain on reserve or be returned to the library collection or owner. Instructors can contact the Circulation Desk at ext. 7815  or by email with any questions.
