PHO150 Digital Photography: Jerry Uelsmann

This collection of the best of his images created over the past 35 years documents his seminal contribution to 20th century art. Uelsmann's technique of merging disparate images produces seamless, surreal compositions as emotionally and psychologically allusive as they are technically flawless.

This first biography, written by Swedish photography historian Moa Petersen who was a close friend of Uelsmann's, addresses his role as disruptor of the traditional straight photography paradigm and the historical context that shaped him. Several of the included images are published here for the first time.

Uelsmann Untitled features the largest number of Uelsmann images ever collected in a single volume. Among them are some that have never before been published, several beloved favorites, and many rarely seen images. Drawn from his entire career, they show both the evolution of his technique and the solidity of his vision. An accompanying essay by Carol McCusker provides historical and biographical context and discusses Uelsmann's formative experiences and his coming of age as a photographer.
